Amazing What Comes From "What If..."
As the stories go, I wrote three screenplays and, quite content with my work, submitted the first to a couple of film festivals and opted for a review. One reviewer came back with lots of positive things to say and added a question: "What if Inga and Rylen were Lozen's parents and she didn't know?"
Wow! What a mindfuuuuk... Think about it — in the videos, Lozen was an Elf. In my screenplay, Blood on the Plains of Hel, Inga was also an Elf (Aelf). The reviewer saw something I didn't and had in place by coincidence.
So, how did Lozen end up at Helsgaard Keep? Back it up. How did a half-Aelf end up in the land of the Humans? Because they are inclusive, well, not that inclusive, not to those with whom they are at war. Back it up. Why are Inga and Rylen hiding out in the lonely Helsgaard Keep? Because they are wanted fugitives and Helsgaard is a a place of last chances where nobody asks questions. Back it up. Why are they running? Because they committed some heinous crime. Back it up. They had an affair and Inga became pregnant. The halfling was deemed a threat to the order of the realm from an ancient prophesy and had to be killed.
Ultimately, I created a whole story about Rylen being one of King Valdissen's Captains of the Guard and was assigned bodyguard duty to Anja, the Junior Emissary from the Aelfinn Kingdom of Aeldoria. One thing led to another, they sheathed the sword, made a baby, and caused the 18-Years War. They bailed and left baby Lozen behind with a family friend who... (read the books to find out).
